In 1939, Canada almost became Britain's only ally in its fight against Germany. It was then that several factories in Quebec became real suppliers for the Allied forces and were then converted to military production.
At that time, Adélard Soucy Ltée had been selected to manufacture warhead ammunition. The family business therefore abandoned the manufacture of seamers for more than 3 years and stopped its repair service in order to devote itself to war production.
The small factory then hired more than 50 dedicated women to polish this ammunition to meet the needs expressed by the army. We found this box containing a few crafting tools and ammunition while cleaning the factory recently.
Let us remember today how this war changed the course of history:
• Gradually brought women into the labor market
• Enabled us to finally emerge from the economic crisis
• Contributed to the birth of the Pierre-Elliott-Trudeau airport and the development of modes of transportation at the time
